Sandi Smith is the Executive Director of the Augustine Literacy Project of the Upstate, a non-profit dedicated to helping at-risk students who struggle with reading, writing, and spelling by providing free, professionally-trained volunteer tutors, leading to significant improvements in literacy skills for these students. Holding a BA in Sociology and an MBA, she brings a unique perspective to the role. She also founded OG Works Tutoring Service in 2017 to provide top-quality tutoring to struggling readers using the Orton-Gillingham Approach and holds certifications as an Associate Practitioner with the Orton-Gillingham Academy and as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction. Sandi’s unwavering commitment to the Science of Reading stems from her belief that strong literacy skills are essential for breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering informed citizens.
